Burwood East Primary School

Burwood East Primary School had a vision of replacing the existing natural mulch surface with a standard rubber softfall surface. A design theme was agreed upon that created a fun and educational playspace for the students. The Ocean Theme was certified by the school body and the install team at RTI went to work to create this immersive playground. Whilst site preparation works took place, the installation crew leader was putting his years of experience to the test in creating prefabricated sea creatures in our warehouse. From Sharks and Dolphins to Turtles and Jelly fish, these designs helped to tie together the ocean theme.

Due to the varying colour combinations, the crew were required to wet pour each creature over multiple days. Custom stencils were created and used in this process, however with some creatures it could be a weeks’ worth of work before seeing the final creature come to life. Constant care and ability to imagine the finished work was required right throughout this process. Eventually the creatures were brought to site and laid out in their final place before being carefully incorporated into the wet pour surface. Care was taken to ensure that the creatures remained as designed and not damaged during the install.  A total of 15T of attenuating SBR and more than 5T of top-coat EPDM was used to bring this space to life!
